Maybin's Fried Green Tomatoes
(Yummy Green Tomatoes hummm what shall I do?)
You know... you don't have to eat Fried Green Tomatoes only as an appetizer at your local favorite restaurants...YOU CAN MAKE THEM YOURSELVES!
It is that time of the year that you can purchase fresh green tomatoes at your local market...these gems are a special treat right now especially since our home grown tomatoes are not planted yet here in North Carolina or at the Maybin's home anyway!
After many recipe trials and errors...I have put together the BEST recipe ever...
Maybin's Fried Green Tomatoes
3 to 4 Green Tomatoes
1 1/2 cup self rising flour
1/2 cup self rising corn meal
2 Tbs. cornstarch
1 to 2 tsp. pepper
1/2 tsp. garlic powder
dash of cayenne ( if you like a little spice)
Slice the tomatoes in the desired thickness (I like about 1/4 inch). Lay them out on a pan and sprinkle them with a little salt. This will help pull some of the water out of the tomatoes. I let them sit for at least 10 to 15 minutes, if you don't they will be soggy... while you are waiting, mix together all the dry ingredients together. Coat the tomatoes with your flour mixture and deep-fry until they are golden brown. Pile high and enjoy! Serve with spicy dipping sauce...serves 4 to 6(maybe) haha!!!!
(This is only one Fried Green Tomato!)
Tammy's Spicy dipping sauce
1/2 cup mayo.
1/2 cup sour cream
2 tsp. Worcestershire
1 tsp lemon juice
1/4 tsp cayenne
1 Tbs. horseradish
Mix together and taste..you might want to add a little salt, or extra cayenne..sometimes I add a little extra lemon to give it a little zip!
Hint: Hint: Sometimes at this point you might just want to see what else you can fry up...since you have the deep-fryer going... squash, zucchini, and onion rings!
Blessings...from the "Maybin" home to yours...
Tamara
